fax modems

• Class 1              modems with extensions to their command sets that allow them to act as Group 3 fax machines.
• Class 1.1            adds V.34 (SuperG3) high-speed fax capability. ( 33.6 kilobits )
• Class 2              handle much of the processing previously done by the CPU
• Class 2.1            adds V.34 (SuperG3) high-speed fax capability.

Even if your modem supports both Class 1 and Class 2 you should set it to Class 1 for compatibility with all fax machines.
