Fax ECM (Error Correction Mode)

If ECM detects an error, the receiving fax machine sends the sending fax machine a signal to resend all or part of the incoming fax.

If the sending fax machine does not resend the information, the fax transmission fails and an error is displayed on your fax machine.

Causes of Transmission Errors

Phone line noise and data flowing through telephone lines at a low signal strength or speed causes fax transmission errors, not the fax machines themselves.

Turning off the ECM feature can improve your fax machine’s ability to send a fax to another party when the telephone line quality in your area is poor. However, the incoming fax’s image quality might be poor: lines on the printed page, missing words or graphics, or a faded fax that's hard to read.
